Terry Tanner is a Texas-based country singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in honest storytelling, lived experience, faith, family, service, and the miles that shape a life.

Originally from Missouri, Tanner left home as a young man and eventually made his way to Nashville, where he spent nearly a decade pursuing a career in country music. Life, however, had other plans. Following 9/11, Tanner returned to military service and went on to complete more than 20 years in the U.S. Army. The years that followed gave him something every songwriter hopes to find: a lifetime of stories worth telling.

Today, Tanner brings those experiences back to the music. His songs move naturally between Texas country, traditional country, and faith-based music, with an emphasis on strong lyrics, memorable melodies, and characters that feel real. Whether he is writing about heartbreak on a lonely Texas highway, the memories carried by veterans long after the uniform comes off, family, faith, or the lessons learned over a lifetime, Tanner writes from a place of authenticity rather than image.

His recent releases reflect that range. “Prayin’ to Remember, Drinkin’ to Forget” explores loss, survivor’s guilt, and the memories veterans carry with them, while his upcoming single “Just Outside of Dallas” turns heartbreak and an empty Texas highway into a reminder that some things cannot be outrun.

After years spent living the stories, Terry Tanner is back where he started—writing songs, telling the truth, and making country music one story at a time.
